L-Reuteri is a delicious cultured dairy product that has the consistency of Greek yogurt, beholding many health benefits. It has been used to treat SIBO, H-pylori, infant colic, candida and more as well as increasing the feel good hormone oxytocin.

How can I make this highly nutritional cultured food you ask?

You will need

  • 2 Tbs of L-Reuteri yogurt or prepackaged dry L-Reuteri starter culture

  • 2 Tbs Organic pre-biotic. This is required to feed the L-Reuteri while it is culturing for 36 hrs. We use Pre Bio Plus or Kate Naturals Organic Inulin Powder. You can also use a product called Pre Bio Plus. Both options work great!

  • A device that can keep the culture between 95 and 100 degress F for the full 36 hours that is required to culture L-Reuteri. Do not allow the heat to go above 100 degrees F. This will kill the L-Reuteri culture.

  • I use an Instant Pot and select the yogurt option. A dehydrator that allows you to manually set the temp will also work. I have personally like the Excalibur. When using a dehydrator be sure and use a lid on your yogurt while it cultures. There are other options available as well. Donna at Cultured Food Life has excellent, very thorough instructions on L-Reuteri

The process is simple:

We use pasteurized organic half and half mixed with whole milk at a 1:1 ratio. This makes a creamy consistency, but not too creamy. Wisk 2 tablespoons of L-Reuteri and 2 Tablespoons of your prebiotic powder into the milk. After thoroughly mixing place the culture in your instant pot or other means. Select the yogurt setting or set the temperature between 95 and 100 degrees F. Allow it to culture for 36 hours. When done I like to blend it using my immersion blender. This makes the final product creamy and delicious.

Note: If using raw milk, be sure and heat it to 180 degrees F, then cool to 97 degrees F before adding culture.

History

I am so thankful to have found this culture. I owe my gratitude to Donna, at Cultured Food Life. She has an incredible podcast covering everything cultured foods. She had a couple podcasts about L-Reuteri yogurt. Within a few weeks of listening I was making my own. It has been a God send for one of my daugters. She was getting debilitating stomach aches every time she ate or didn’t eat for that matter. I found a few products that were helpful. One was a probiotic that specifically targets H-Pylori. We were paying $30 for a small bottle. Guess what strain of probiotics was in it? You guessed it, L-Reuteri. It was helpful, but nothing like the real thing. When I made our first batch of this yogurt, my daughter fell in love with it.

She drinks it straight and thinks it’s the most amazing food in the world. We have kept this in her diet for the last 4 months and her stomach pain has all but gone away. Since incorporating this into my diet I am getting much sounder sleep. L-Reuteri has gifted our family with better health. We hope to share that gift with others that come into our circle, as Donna, at Cultured Food Life shared it with us.
